In Search of Oldton

Dad did find other jobs after the brush factory closed down.

For some reason, I have it in my mind that he worked sometimes in London as a management consultant, living in a little rented flat in Hendon. I could be making that up.

He definitely worked for the Co-op for a while. And after the divorce from Mum, he definitely moved to a bungalow on the cliff, where he could keep an eye on the boats that went by. By then he'd stopped working full time to devote more time to drinking.

If you asked me what his ambitions were, I couldn't tell you. I rather suspect, if he had any at all, they would be nothing to do with the world of work.

More likely they'd involve a yacht and lots of sailing.
